Shady Lane BMX in Norwalk is a non-profit BMX track operated by volunteers to provide a positive environment for riders to enjoy the BMX racing experience in a family atmosphere. We might best be described as a Boy or Girl Scouts group, except we ride bikes! We have set our goals and standards very high for all aspects of Shady Lane. Come see why Shady Lane BMX is considered the best track in the State! We invite you to become a part of our "Racing Family."

The National Bicycle League (NBL) is the largest sanctioning body in BMX racing today. Shady Lane is a NBL track and we comply with all the rules and policies of the NBL. All riders racing or practicing at Shady Lane must be NBL members so that SHADY LANE BMX is covered for liability purposes. Riders participating in free Open House or New Rider Clinics must sign a release with parents before you may participate. Riders wishing to become NBL members should bring a parent or guardian to registration with proof of birth date to complete required paperwork.  A trial membership cost $25 dollars and it's good for one month and gives you a chance to try BMX without paying for a full membership. It can be easily converted to a full one year membership for $20. There are many benefits for full members. We will be happy to answer any questions and guide you through the process.

Get your bike ready for the track.

Bikes must be prepared for the track to meet NBL rules and standards. Remove all reflectors, kickstand, chain guards, or any freestyle pegs. Grips must have ends or bar end plugs installed. A 3-piece pad set must be installed with a pad on the top tube, stem, and handlebar cross bar. Brakes must function properly and all fasteners should be tightened correctly. Each bike will go through a tech inspection before it enters track to assure safe operation. Pad sets for new riders are available for loan at the track.

What the rider need to get on the track.

Riders must have proper clothing to be allowed on track. A helmet with mouth protection, long pants, and a long sleeve shirt are required. A good helmet, jeans, and a long sleeve t-shirt is just fine to get you started in BMX racing. How much you spend is not important, how much fun your having is! A limited number of helmets are available at the track for loan to new riders.

There are many classes to race in. New riders, called rookies, race against riders of their same age and ability. Novices race against other novices, experts against experts. Girls race against girls their same age. Riders from 5 to 44 race at each event. We are very proud of the many new riders that have become a part of our racing program in the last year. This is the positive environment we always wanted our children to grow up in.

Free New Rider Clinics are the best way to get started racing BMX. Our experienced staff slowly takes you through the skills need to get started riding on our awesome track. Click link for more info.
